A bowl of Chili and a chilly day go hand in hand. why not add some sweet to your savory dish with this outstanding recipe.
Ingredients
-
1 lb. Ground Beef
-
1 large Sweet Vidalia Onion, chopped
-
3 tsp Chili Powder
-
3 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
-
2 cups Beef Broth (unsalted)
-
1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped
-
2 tbsp Dark Brown Sugar
-
1 can (15 oz) Pinto Beans, undrained
-
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-
1-2 tbsp AMAZING GRACE
-
Havarti or Gouda cheese, shredded
-
Frito’s
Directions
In a 4 ½ to 6 qt. Dutch oven, turn on low heat & drizzle the extra virgin olive oil into the pan. Add ground beef to the Dutch oven & apply AMAZING GRACE generously onto the meat. Roughly chop the onion & mix in with the beef. Cook the mixture & stir occasionally over medium-high heat for 8 ± minutes; until the onion pieces are soft & there is no pink left in the beef (155 degrees Fahrenheit). Remove beef and onion mixture & set it aside on a plate with paper towels underneath to help soak up the excess grease.
After removing the core and skin of the green apple, roughly chop the apple and place them into the same Dutch oven as used before. Add in the dark brown sugar & stir constantly until apples soften/caramelize for about 5 ± minutes.
Add the beef/onions mixture back into the Dutch oven with the apples. Add in the tomato paste, chili powder, apple cider vinegar, pinto beans (with liquids) & beef broth. Stir to combine the items. bring Dutch oven to a boil & reduce to a simmer for 30 ± minutes until flavors are well blended. stir occasionally to prevent scolding.
Remove from heat & let it cool slightly before serving. Add in shredded cheese & Frito’s. warm your soul.
Recipe Note
I recommend using a Dutch oven with an enamel coating to help reduce the food sticking.
Desired consistency may vary, in-turn, cooking times may also vary. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
I suggest using PASSOVER in substitution from regular tomato paste if you want a more complex flavor or to tone the sweetness levels down.
Smooth white cheese (Havarti or Gouda) compliments the sweet flavor of this dish.
